- APRIL 21, 2008, WILMINGTON, DE -- The Delaware World TeamTennis Recreational League recently hosted its third annual spring tournament on the beautiful courts of Delaware Tennis Center (www.delawaretenniscenter.com), Bellevue State Park. Approximately 100 players competed on 14 teams at three levels over the two-day tournament.
The 2.5/3.0 Division winner was Wilson Racqueteers, captained by Paul Wilson from Paoli, PA. Other members of the team included Karen Blank, Debbie Heth, Alyssa White, Scott Bleazard and Karthekeyan Dharmaraj. The runner-up was DePorte, captained by Becky DePorte. -
- The 3.5 Division had a total of eight teams competing in two flights. The winner of Flight A was 1st State Racquets of Wilmington, DE, captained by Taya Dianna and Alison Moran. Other members included JC Hall, Milos Markis, Dave Weick, Cindy Weick and Lexy Malone. The winner of Flight B was BigShots, captained by Subba Kumpatla from West Grove, PA. Other members of the team included Amp Lyons, Maureen Malloy, Pamela Petrine, Bianca Skilling, Rob Attman, Ganesan Kumaravelu and Avinash Sreenevasan. BigShots won the overall 3.5 division by defeating 1st State Racquets in the playoffs 29-27.
The 4.0 Division winner was Tennis For Life, captained by Avinash Sreenivasan from Newark, DE. Other team members included Barbara Avitello, Jean Diver, Amanda Postorivo, Vicki Tully, Mark Homewood, Elan Paneerselvam and Thomas Tracy. The runner-up in the 4.0 division was Get-A-Grip. Team members were Jen Hartnett, Ruth Donohue, Martin Cattoni, and Subbu Ramalingam.
Wilson Racqueteers, BigShots, 1st State Racquets and Tennis For Life all are now eligible to compete in a WTT National Qualifier event. There are six National Qualifiers held across the nation throughout the year. In September, DuPont Country Club will host the event locally. Teams that win a National Qualifier are then invited to compete for a national WTT title.
The Delaware Recreational World TeamTennis League is also planning a summer league that will start in late July, as well as a summer tournament in August. The tournament will tentatively be held at Delaware Tennis Center (www.delawaretenniscenter.com) at Bellevue State Park on August 16 and 17.

2007 AUGUST TOURNAMENT at DELAWARE TENNIS CENTER
AUGUST 26, 2007, WILMINGTON, DE -- The Delaware World TeamTennis Recreational League recently hosted its annual summer tournament on the beautiful courts of DelawareTennisCenter, BellevueState Park. Approximately 45 players competed on six teams at the 3.5 level over the three-day tournament. Local sponsors of the WTT League include Wilmington Trust Bank and DelCard Associates, Inc. and tournament sponsor was Nick’s Pizza. The winner of the tournament was Bigshots, captained by Subba Kumptala. Other members of the team included Mark Homewood, Vickie Tully, Kim Ziegler, Cindy Beach, Rob Attman, Avinash Sreenivasan, and Amp Lyons. The runner-up was Tennis the Menace, captained by Mike Hampton, and included Mike and Michele Breslin, Jonathan and Daniela Mellen, and Laurie Lemanski. Several members of the team traveled from New Hampshire to compete at this level. Team Bigshots is now eligible to compete in a WTT National Qualifier event. There are six National Qualifiers held across the nation throughout the year. In October, DuPont Country Club will host the event locally. Teams that win a National Qualifier are then invited to compete for a national WTT title. In February of this year, two area teams traveled to a National Qualifier in Bradenton, Florida, where six teams competed for the right to advance to Nationals. The Delaware team, co-captained by Alison Moran and Taya Diana, emerged as NQ Champions and the team will be traveling to Indian Wells, California in November to compete for the National title. Tennis teams from Delaware, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York capture regional titles at WTT Rec League National Qualifier in Florida
Teams advance to national finals in November
BRADENTON, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2007) – Recreational tennis teams from Delaware, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania captured regional championship titles this weekend at the World TeamTennis Rec League National Qualifier at IMG Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, FL. The Bradenton tournament was the first national qualifying event of the year for the World TeamTennis Rec League presented by Advanta. The winning teams in each division advance to the WTT National Finals, Nov. 1-4 in Indian Wells, CA, where they will battle champions from five other qualifying events.
Delaware State Racquets of Wilmington, DE, captured the 3.0 Division crown with a 34-24 win over The Acer’s, captained by Margaret Campbell of Chesapeake City, MD. Delaware State Racquets, led by co-captains Taya Dianna and Alison Moran of Wilmington, posted a 2-0 record in the qualifying rounds to advance to the semifinals where they defeated Team Leisure Works of Sarasota, FL, 30-27.

Teams from Middletown, NJ; Glenmont, NY; Miami, FL; Miami Lakes, FL; and Millersville, PA won titles in the 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, Senior 3.5, and Senior 4.0 divisions, respectively.
The top teams from the Bradenton qualifier face off against the winners from qualifiers scheduled for Las Vegas, NV; St. Louis, MO; Raleigh, NC; Wilmington, DE; and Irvine, CA, at the WTT National Finals, Nov. 1-4, at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, CA. The next WTT National Qualifier will be April 20-22, at the DarlingTennisCenter in Las Vegas. Registration deadline is April 6. Teams become eligible to compete in a National Qualifier by winning a tournament or league at the local level. The Delaware WTT Recreational League is hosting a Spring Tournament at DelawareTennisCenter at BellevueState Park on April 20-22. WTT Recreational League: WTT Recreational League programs feature year-round leagues which use the unique coed team format created in the 1970s by Billie Jean King and Larry King. More than 490,000 tennis players of all levels compete in WTT Recreational Leagues in parks, schools, clubs and tennis facilities in more than 1,000 cities. The WTT format is a fun, fast-paced co-ed team format that encourages equal contributions from both genders. A team has a minimum of four players, two men and two women. The WTT format uses five or six no-ad sets: men’s and women’s doubles, men’s and women’s singles and one or two sets of mixed doubles.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Delaware World TeamTennis Recreational League recently wrapped up the summer season.
Wilmington, DE (September 2006) - Eight teams competed at the 2.5/3.0 level and seven teams at the 3.5 level, with a total of 150 players in the summer league.
The top four teams in each level qualified for playoffs, which were held at Banning Park on September 20 and 21. In the final round of the 2.5/3.0 level, the Acers, led by Captain Margaret Campbell, defeated Tanya Djanegara’s Racquet Rebels by a score of 23-20. At the 3.5 level, Team Beach, captained by Cindy Beach, defeated Team Sun, captained by Charlene Sun, by a score of 24-19.
In July, over 50 people battled the extreme heat in the WTT’s Summer Tournament, held at DelCastle Tennis Center. Teams were divided into three levels. The overall winner at the 2.5/3.0 level was the team captained by Dave Reilly. At the 3.5 level, Team Sun was victorious. And at the 4.0 level, Alp Akalin’s team pulled out the win.
All winning teams from both the summer season and the tournament are now eligible to attend a WTT National Qualifier event. Six events are held across the country, with National Championships in November. Earlier this year, a local team competed at the National Qualifier in Bradenton, FL and finished in 2nd place.
This was the first year for local league coordinators Alison Moran and Taya Dianna, both of whom have been league players for several years. The duo was very pleased with the level of participation and sportsmanship displayed by all competitors.

Three Delaware Tennis Teams Advance to WTT National Qualifiers
Wilmington, DE (April 22-23, 2006) – Over 90 area tennis enthusiasts competed in a World TeamTennis Recreational Tournament this past weekend at Brandywine Racquet Club in Concordville, PA. The tournament was originally slated for DelawareTennis Center at Bellevue State Park, but was moved indoors due to the inevitable rain. Tournament sponsors included MySherpa (www.mysherpa.com) and Mamma Giulia Ristorante & Pizzeria on Philadelphia Pike.
The tournament included 13 teams, broken into three playing levels: Beginner (2.5-3.0), Intermediate (3.0-3.5), and Intermediate/Advanced (3.5-4.5). The winning team from each level became eligible to attend a WTT National Qualifier. National Qualifiers are held across the nation, including Bradenton, FL; Las Vegas, NV; St. Louis, MO; Schenectedy, NY; Atlanta, GA; or Irvine, CA.
Only one point separated the first place Claymates from the second place Racquet Rebels in the Beginner Level. Becky DePorte captained the Claymates. Other team members were Carmie Clark, Jill Boova, Tony Boova, Sue Spitz, Cooke Harvey, Donald Reid, Mario Munoz and Mohammad Nawaz. The top three teams in the Intermediate Flight A were separated by just four points. Team Koester, captained by Jane Koester, fought off some tough competition to advance to the Intermediate Level playoffs. Other team members were Katie Centrella, Colleen Shivone, Bree Tease, Robert Krawczyk, David Taylor, and Charles Rowe. The Fireballs in Intermediate Flight B had some stiff competition of their own, winning their flight by a mere two points, and taking the overall win at the Intermediate Level. Bianca Skilling captained the Fireballs whose other team members were James Skilling, Lexy Malone, Gae Pike, Brenda Nunez, Alan Oberman, Bill Long and Barry Crell.
In the Intermediate/Advanced Level, Team Alp took the championship over Team Homewood. Team Alp was captained by Alp Akalin and included Chas Engel, Deb Engel and Kristi Borman.
WTT Recreational Leagues are played throughout the United States in more than 1,000 cities. “The co-ed team format of World TeamTennis is fun, fast-paced, competitive and great exercise,” said WTT co-founder Billie Jean King. “Tennis is even more exciting as a team sport and the WTT format gives players the opportunity to enjoy the game at a new level.”
In Delaware, another local tournament is being planned for the end of July with league play planned for August and September. Interested players can sign up as a team or as individuals looking for a team. Registration is open to residents of Delaware and surrounding states at all levels of play.
